The Principal's Corner

Welcome, Thundercats!

It is my honor and privilege to serve as the Principal of James Avant Elementary School. I am passionate about creating a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment where every child is empowered to succeed.

As a proud graduate of the East St. Louis School District, I understand the value of a strong educational foundation and the impact it has on shaping future leaders. Over the past two decades, I have dedicated my career to serving students and families in various roles, including classroom teacher, instructional coach, academic interventionist, and most recently, assistant principal. These experiences have prepared me to lead James Avant Elementary with both confidence and compassion.

At James Avant Elementary, our mission is clear: Elevating Student Achievement by Educating the Whole Child. We believe every child has the potential to excel when given the right support and opportunities. Our instructional priorities this year will focus on:

  • Rigorous Tier I Instruction
     
  • Small Group Interventions
     
  • Writing Across All Content Areas

Beyond academics, we are committed to social-emotional learning, positive behavior supports, and building strong partnerships with families and the community. Together, we will ensure that THUNDERCATS Stay READY!

Greetings Thundercat Family, 

It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome you to a new school year at James Avant Elementary School. My name is Jessica Boykin, and I am honored to serve as your Assistant Principal. It is a pleasure to join a school community committed to academic excellence, community partnerships, and building strong relationships that meet the needs of each student. 

This year we will remain focused on creating a learning environment that fosters high expectations for success, college and career readiness, and productive citizenship. I am committed to supporting our dedicated teams as we thrive to achieve new heights through our shared commitment. I will be working closely with staff, students, and families to ensure each student has the resources and support to thrive. As we embark on an exciting school year,  I look forward to working alongside each of you to create a positive school culture where staff and students continuously learn and grow.
